What is Global Warming?

Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth’s temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate.  A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans.  When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities.

How You Can Help Fight Global Warming?

Burning fossil fuels to power our houses and run our cars creates a high percentage of our global warming pollution.  Small changes can add up and make a real difference if we all do our part.  To calculate your own annual pollution, visit www.fightglobalwarming.com

Inside the House...

Home energy accounts for a large percentage of our global warming pollution.  You can help conserve by checking for air leaks and adequate insulation, using energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances and turning off electronics when not in use.

Ten Steps

1. Turn off unnecessary lights.
2. Keep your windows closed tight.
3. Run dishwasher only when full.
4. Wash clothes in warm or cold water, not hot.
5. Adjust your thermostat - lower in winter - higher in summer.
6. Recycle paper, plastic, glass & metal.
7. Walk, bike, car-pool, use mass transit when possible.
8. Buy energy efficient light bulbs.
9. Choose recyclable products over disposable.
10. Check your car’s tire pressure regularly.
